Spotify Podcast Episode: How to Turn a 'Messy' Resume into a Bestseller -- The Marketer's Guide to Getting Hired by Growclass

I’m thrilled to announced that I’m a contributor to The Marketer’s Guide to Getting Hired, a new Growclass ebook and audio guide. The Growclass team wrote the guide to help marketers navigate a changeable and turbulent job market.

Launched in June 2025, the guide explores career pivots, entering new markets, finding new roles and negotiating compensation pieces like equity and salary.

The guide includes both an ebook and a three-episode audio podcast for people who prefer to listen as they learn.

I contributed content to the ebook and participated in the first podcast episode, “How to Turn a ‘Messy’ Resume into a Bestseller.” You can listen to it on Spotify.

What’s in The Marketer’s Guide to Getting Hired ebook?

Spearheaded by Hiba Amin, the guide takes marketers through all the steps of running a modern job hunt. Contributors include Luke Galea, Lyn-Marie Farley, Juanita Lee-Garcia, and me.

Topics we cover:

  • Reflecting on your risk level
  • Getting the interview: Core principles to follow
  • Getting the Interview: Resumes and cover letters
  • How to nail the screening interview
  • How to impress the hiring manager and team
  • Everything you need to know about marketing assignments
  • Negotiation: Sitting on the same side of the table
  • Negotiation: Understanding equity

What about the Spotify episodes?

The episodes for The Marketer’s Guide to Getting Hired drill down into more challenging topics, and each episode is less than thirty minutes. They include making the transition to working in Canada from overseas, negotiating equity and telling your career story.

Hosted by Sarah Stockdale, founder of Growclass, I spoke with the fantastic Jay Cockburn for the career story episode of Growclass’s podcast, “How to Turn a ‘Messy’ Resume into a Bestseller,” which you can listen to on Spotify.

Here’s the promo blurb:

Ever look at your resume and think, “This just doesn’t make sense”? You’re not alone—and you’re not wrong. But that “messy” career path? It’s actually your greatest storytelling asset.

In this episode, Growclass Founder Sarah Stockdale is joined by marketing consultant and career coach, Elizabeth Monier-Williams (EMW), alongside journalist Jay Cockburn, to help you turn your career history into a compelling, confidence-boosting narrative.

Whether you’re pivoting industries, coming back from a career gap, or just feeling uninspired by your LinkedIn headline, this conversation has something for you.

Topics include:

  • Frame your experience like a hero’s journey (yup, even the weird bits)
  • Highlight your superpowers—even the ones you overlook
  • Tell the “outside version” of your story with truth and clarity
  • Navigate career pivots, failures, and interviews with confidence
  • Make your resume, LinkedIn, and portfolio actually work for you
  • Negotiate your worth—without flinching

That sounds great: Could you help me with that?

Absolutely. Reach out to me on LinkedIn and let me know where you are in your search.

I offer a no-charge 15-minute exploratory call to see if my career strategy skills would be a fit for you.
